Family tree
Everything you need to trace your family.
Trees, records, DNA insights, photograph restoration and family stories, working together in one private workspace.
How onboarding works
- Register. Create your account with your name, email address and ZIP code. A mobile number is optional and only used if you tick the separate text-alert box.
- Confirm your email. We send a link so we know the address is yours.
- Add the first names. Start with yourself and your parents. You can add more whenever you like.
- Review your first leads. We suggest record collections and possible matches. Accept what fits and dismiss the rest.
Privacy basics
Living relatives are hidden from other members by default. You control the visibility of each branch, who you invite, and what you download or delete. We do not sell personal information, and we never ask for a Social Security number, bank details or payment cards to register. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
Family trees
A tree is the backbone of everything else in Marinerreview. Start with yourself, add your parents, and keep going until you reach the edge of what you know. Each person has a profile with names, dates, places, relationships, notes and attached sources, so you can see at a glance what is confirmed and what is still a guess.
You can work on one tree or several. Many members keep a separate tree for each side of the family, then merge branches when a connection turns up. Because trees can be shared, cousins who each know a different corner of the family can build the picture together instead of repeating each other’s work.
- Add unlimited people, relationships and notes
- Mark any fact as confirmed, probable or unproven
- Invite relatives and review their changes before they appear
- Print a chart or download a copy of your tree
Historical records
Historical records are where trees turn into evidence. Search for a name and a place, and we show collections that may contain your relatives: census pages, church and parish registers, civil registrations, immigration and passenger lists, military papers and local directories.
Coverage varies a great deal. Some countries and decades are well documented and others are thin, so we show you what exists for your places and dates instead of implying that every search will succeed. Names are spelled differently across time and across borders, which is why our search tolerates common variants and lets you adjust how strict it should be.
- Filter by country, decade, record type and spelling
- Attach a record to a person so the source stays with the fact
- Save searches and return to them when new collections arrive
DNA insights
DNA insights are optional, and you can use every other part of Marinerreview without them. If you already have results from a test you took elsewhere, you can add them to your account to see ethnicity estimates and possible relatives who share segments of DNA with you.
Genetic information is sensitive. We collect it only if you choose to add it, use it only for the features you ask for, never sell it, and delete it when you tell us to. Please read the DNA section of our Privacy Policy before you decide, and remember that DNA estimates are statistical and can change as research improves.
- Entirely optional and separate from registration
- Control whether possible relatives can see that you match
- Delete your DNA data at any time
Photo restoration
Old photographs are often the most precious thing a family owns, and the most fragile. Upload a scan or a picture taken with your phone and use our tools to sharpen detail, repair scratches and creases, and add natural color. We keep your original untouched, so you can always compare the two.
Once a photograph is in your archive you can add a caption, a date and the people in it. Tagged photos appear on each person’s profile, which makes it easy to share a picture with the relatives who are in it.
- Side-by-side original and restored view
- Captions, dates, places and tagged people
- Share individual photographs with specific relatives
Family stories
Dates and names are only half of a family history. The other half is the story: how your great-grandparents met, why the family moved, what the house smelled like on holidays. Marinerreview gives every person in your tree a place for written memories, and you can invite relatives to add their own versions.
Stories can be short or long, and they sit next to the records and photographs that support them. When someone asks years from now where a family tradition came from, the answer is attached to the person who started it.
- Written memories on every profile
- Prompts that help you start when you are not sure what to write
- Shared editing with relatives you choose
