Build a tree at your own pace

Most people begin with themselves and work backwards. Add a person, a few dates and a place, and the tree draws itself. Connect siblings, spouses and cousins as you learn about them, and leave gaps where you are still searching.

  • Add names, dates, places, notes and sources
  • Mark facts as confirmed or still unproven
  • Invite relatives to contribute

Search historical records

Search by name, place and year, then narrow by record type. When a record looks right, attach it to the person in your tree with one click so the source stays next to the fact it supports.

  • Census, church, civil and passenger records
  • Filters for country, decade and spelling variants
  • Saved searches you can come back to

Hints that save time

As your tree grows, we look for possible matches and tell you when something new appears. Each hint explains why it was suggested, so you can judge it yourself before it touches your tree.

  • Possible matches are labeled as leads, never as facts
  • Accept, dismiss or save for later
  • Email alerts you can switch off at any time
Faded originalRestored and colorized

Bring old photographs back

Scan a faded print or a damaged snapshot and use our tools to sharpen it, repair scratches and add color. Keep the original next to the restored version so nothing is ever lost.

  • Side-by-side before and after view
  • Captions, dates and tagged people
  • Share a photo with the relatives who appear in it

Take your tree anywhere

Your tree is the same on a laptop, a tablet and a phone. Add a name at a family gathering, snap a photograph of a gravestone, and find it waiting when you sit down at your desk.

  • Works in any modern browser
  • Changes sync across your devices
  • Download a copy of your tree whenever you like

Got questions? We have answers!

Check out our frequently asked questions.

What happens after I register?

We send a confirmation email so you can verify your address. After that you can start a tree with your own name, a birth year and a place, add parents and grandparents as you remember them, and look at the record collections we suggest for the surnames and places in your tree.

Do I have to give a phone number or agree to texts?

No. The mobile number and the text-message checkbox are optional and separate from the Terms checkbox. If you tick the second box, Marinerreview sends account notifications only, such as confirmations and security alerts, up to 4 messages per month. If you leave it unticked we contact you by email.

How do I stop text messages?

Reply STOP to any text and we stop immediately. You can also use the opt-out page or email [email protected]. Reply HELP to any message for help. Message and data rates from your carrier may apply.

Can I invite relatives to see my tree?

Yes. You decide who can view each tree and you can remove access at any time. Relatives you invite can add names, dates and photos, and you can review changes before they appear.

What kinds of records can I search?

Collections vary by country and time period and can include census pages, immigration and passenger lists, church registers, civil registrations and military papers. Coverage is uneven, so we show you what exists for your places and dates instead of promising a particular record.

Is DNA required to use the service?

No. DNA insights are optional. If you choose to add results you already have, we treat them as sensitive information, use them only for the features you ask for and never sell them. You can delete them whenever you like.

How do I delete my account and tree?

Email [email protected] from the address on your account, or write to us at the mailing address in the footer. We process verified deletion requests as described in our Privacy Policy.

Will I definitely find my ancestors?

We cannot promise that. Some families are easy to trace and others leave few records. Hints and record matches are leads for you to review, so we label them as possible matches and let you accept or dismiss each one.

Your family’s story is waiting.

Important information. Marinerreview is a family-history research service. What you find depends on the records, trees and information that are available, and we cannot guarantee that any ancestor, relative, record or match will be found. Hints and record suggestions are leads for you to review, not confirmed facts. Genealogical records can be incomplete, transcribed with mistakes or unavailable for some places and periods.

Text messages are optional and are used only for account notifications. Agreeing to them is never required to register or to use any part of the service. We run, review and support every registration through our own team.
